SmartRail Taipei International Smart Rail Exhibition and Series of Seminars - 4/26 Smart Rail Digital Twin and Energy Management

May 07, 2024

Taipei, April 26, 2024 - The chairman of Z-COM, Inc., John S. Shieh, delivered a keynote speech on smart stations and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issues at the SmartRail Taipei International Smart Rail Exhibition and Series of Seminars.

In his speech, Chairman Shieh elaborated on Z-COM's latest developments in the rail systems field, with a particular focus on the resilience of smart stations and ESG aspects. He proposed the use of an Energy Management System (EMS) based on 5G IoT heterogeneous networks and the implementation of efficient management of smart stations through communication technologies such as 5G NR and Wi-Fi 6. Furthermore, he emphasized the application of Janus Gate security technology, using AI-generated firewalls to isolate microsegments, achieving zero-trust security to ensure the safe transmission of IoT information, and enhancing the overall security of rail systems.

Taking Taipei Metro for an example, the solar photovoltaic systems installed in 6 major railway depots generate approximately 22 MW, producing over twenty million kWh annually, yet occupying less than five percent of electricity usage. Therefore, apart from energy generation, it is necessary to complement it with energy storage, monitoring, and management to achieve the environmental sustainability and resilience of the power grid. Z-COM’ s zMEC platform supports Taiwan Power Company's Dreams energy management platform, enabling the integration of various IoT mainstream protocols and supporting the management of north-south communication equipment.

During the speech, Chairman Shieh not only elaborated on the technological innovations of Z-COM, Inc. but also delved deeper into discussing relevant issues regarding smart rail digital twin and energy management. The session was moderated by Dr. Chang Chen-Chiu, Executive Director of the Center for Intelligent Transportation and Rail Systems at Chung Hua University, who facilitated in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as technical practices and future development trends.
